What’s in TheoLink today, what’s next, what’s deferred.
Honest accounting of the corpus. We do not claim to have every text in every tradition. Currently 551 primary source files across 23 traditions (17 fully processed into the semantic graph). Loaded counts are queried live from the lineage database — no hand-edited inventory to drift out of sync. Queued and deferred lists are hand-curated roadmap aspirations. The “deferred” column reflects a comprehensive canonical-gaps audit: texts with no English translation are tagged with their original language, and copyright-blocked items cite the standing translator.

About completeness. Even the “loaded today” column is one-translation-per-text in most cases when several public-domain alternatives exist. Adding alternative translations is a deliberate ongoing focus — every additional translation makes the translation-contestation feature more useful (Genesis 1:1 Elohim, Bhagavad Gita 2:22 atman, John 1:1 logos all read differently across translators). See CORPUS_EXPANSION.md for the engineering plan with public-domain source URLs.

No English (late Arabic talismanic / Sufi-magic corpus — al-Būnī school): Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Būnī (d. 1225) Shams al-Maʿārif al-Kubrā complete — the largest classical Arabic grimoire, circulated through Ottoman + North African + West African Sufi networks; Leoni 2016 copyright selections only — no complete English (Classical Arabic); al-Būnī Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt + ʿAlam al-Hudā + Mawāqif al-Ghāyāt fī Asrār al-Riyāḍāt (Classical Arabic); Kitāb al-Uṣūl wa-al-Ḍawābiṭ al-mansūbah ilā al-Sayyid al-Sharīf (Classical Arabic); al-Ṭūkhī al-Saḥar al-Aḥmar + al-Sirr al-Rabbānī — later-tradition derivative grimoires (Classical Arabic); Ibn al-Ḥājj al-Tilimsānī Shumūs al-Anwār wa-Kunūz al-Asrār (Classical Arabic); Aḥmad al-Dayrabī Fatḥ al-Malik al-Majīd / Mujarrabāt al-Dayrabī magical-practical manual (Classical Arabic)
Editorial decision required before Shams al-Maʿārif al-Kubrā can be translated: printed 'kubrā' vulgate (widely held to be a 14th–15th c. expansion of al-Būnī's authentic shorter core) vs. reconstruction of the authentic al-Būnī recension per Gardiner 2012 + 2017 textual-history scholarship (Arabica 64; Aries supplements) — a translator must choose or collate an edition before work begins, since the two recensions differ substantially in which passages are treated as al-Būnī's hand vs. later accretion; Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt and ʿAlam al-Hudā are closer to al-Būnī's authentic register and do not carry the same textual-criticism blocker — translate those first; Shams al-Kubrā additionally ~30–40% diagrammatic content (awfāq / magic squares / talismanic seals) that must be reproduced as images, not prose — archive text-format constraint (Classical Arabic — textual criticism + image-bearing format)
Editorial obstacles for ʿAlam al-Hudā (al-Būnī): no critical edition exists and no published scholarly stemma — unlike Shams al-Kubrā where Gardiner has mapped recension clusters, nobody has publicly triaged the ʿAlam al-Hudā manuscript tradition; specific risks are (1) wrong-witness risk — surviving manuscripts differ in chapter order, presence/absence of whole sections, and readings of operative material (divine-name tables, letter-squares) where a single-character difference changes the content, (2) incompleteness risk — some copies are scribal abridgments or have lacunae, presenting as the full work, (3) misattribution risk — several pseudo-al-Būnī works circulate under nearby titles and could bind under ʿAlam al-Hudā in later copies; mitigations are to pick a manuscript cited by Coulon 2017 (La magie islamique et le corpus bunianum, dissertation) or Gardiner — reducing outlier risk and making the translation mappable against future scholarship — to document the chosen shelfmark, folio count, date, and provenance prominently in the front-matter, and to label the final artifact 'translation of ʿAlam al-Hudā as preserved in MS X' rather than as a definitive text; Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt carries less risk and should be translated first (Classical Arabic — textual criticism + manuscript selection)
Source-acquisition obstacle for Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt (al-Būnī, full title Kitāb Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt fī asrār al-ḥurūf al-ʿulwiyyāt): no printed Arabic critical edition exists — the work has never been critically edited or published as a book and survives only in manuscript witnesses — so the translation workflow is not 'translate a digital text' but rather 'acquire manuscript images → paleographic transcription of 14th–15th c. hand into Unicode Arabic → verbatim translation', which is a paleography + translation project not a translation project alone; principal witnesses identified in Gardiner 2014 + Coulon are BnF Paris arabe 2657 (earliest dated — copied Mecca 788 AH / 1386 CE), BnF Paris arabe 2637 (Coulon's primary witness, with 9×9 + 10×10 + 11×11 awfāq at specific folios), BnF Paris arabe 2658, Chester Beatty MS Ar. 5297.1 (15th c., 96 folios), Escorial MS Derenbourg 979 (Maghribi hand, probably 14th c., undated), Berlin Or. 80; BnF Gallica digitizes some al-Būnī manuscripts (al-Lumʿa al-nūrāniyya confirmed; a Shams draft at arabe 2650) but the specific Laṭāʾif shelfmarks require manual Gallica lookup — automated access is gated by CAPTCHA; scholarly references include Gardiner 2014 Esotericism in a Manuscript Culture dissertation (archive.org full text) + Gardiner 2023 'Diagrams and Visionary Experience in al-Būnī's Laṭāʾif al-Ishārāt' (Brill Visualizing Sufism vol.) + Coulon 2017 + Coulon 'Amulets and Talismans in the Earliest Works of the Corpus Bunianum' (HAL open access) — these describe and partially transcribe the text but do not publish a full edition; next-step options are (a) manual Gallica browsing for the BnF Laṭāʾif shelfmarks and PDF download, (b) Chester Beatty digital-access request for MS Ar. 5297.1, (c) acquire Coulon dissertation for partial transcriptions as a starting methodology (Classical Arabic — source acquisition + paleographic transcription required before translation)
